It is with absolute pleasure that we extend an invitation to our annual City meets Country Ekka Week High Tea.
This year’s event will be held on Friday, August 11th at the Ithaca Auditorium, Brisbane City Hall at 2pm. It is an opportunity to gather and share a glass of quality Australian Sparkling wine, then to connect over a sumptuous High Tea, all the while celebrating rural and regional resilience, diversity and richness.
We are returning to the magnificent venue we enjoyed last year – with its amazing light, marble staircases, mosaic tiled floors, chandeliers and vaulted ceiling, truly a unique culturally significant heritage venue. Brisbane City Hall promises us elegance and grandeur in the Ithaca Auditorium for those who support the work of Rural, Regional and Remote women from their suburban homes, and equally, those who are travelling from rural and remote properties across the state and beyond to attend.
This year we are celebrating Fibre to Fashion. This year we have selected a panel which includes
- Julie Brown, whose business Coola Cozzies grew out of a period of drought on her station at Ilfracombe.
- Kerrie Richards, principal of Merino Country, which produces 100% Australian made and grown Merino wool fabric, clothing and underwear, now supplying internationally.
- Pam Greet, whose social fashion experiment “50 Things 2016” drew acclaim and interest internationally.
There will be opportunities in equal parts, to spend time maintaining and creating networks in a relaxed environment and investing in and learning about the incredible work being done statewide. Please join us for an opportunity to foster and create connections, to appreciate the unique work being undertaken to transform fibre to fashion and market it to the world, and to relax and be pampered in truly beautiful surrounds. During the afternoon, there will be an informal fashion parade, a silent auction and multi-draw raffles raising much-needed funds to increase QRRRWN’s capacity to offer support to Queensland women to grow, strengthen their skills and networks and to lead, wherever their feet are planted.
