2017 Cultural Competition

Emerald Art Gallery and Flying Arts Alliance Inc. are pleased to partner with QRRRWN to deliver the 2017 Cultural Competition.

This competition is open to all Australian women, 16 years and over, who live in a rural, regional or remote area (i.e 300km or more from a capital city).

The theme for the 2017 competition is “Vibrant Communities”. There are three (3) categories in the Competition. All items submitted must be available for sale.

Entrants are invited to explore the theme in their chosen category and are required to submit an artist statement outlining how their work addresses the theme (maximum 100 words).

  • Entries open: 8th August 2017
  • Applications Close: 9th October 2017
  • Delivery Date: 17th October (or by arrangement)
  • Opening Night: Thursday 19th October 2017*
  • Exhibition Dates: 20th – 21st October 2017
  • Collection Date: By arrangement

* Art works will not be on display at the opening function as it will be held in an open-air venue.

Category 1 – Photography – ‘Capture the Moment’

All photographs must be mounted on strong cardboard or plain framing mats for showing & be at least 2cm wider than the photo.
■ No framed photos. The Maximum size of the photo is not to exceed 12″ x 8″.
■ Please state which side is up, if needed.
■ Self-Adhesive Velcro must be of good quality to hold photos on carpeted display boards. Stick a piece of Self-Adhesive Velcro (hook side) in each corner on the back of the cardboard or framing mat.
■ Name and Title of work must be clearly printed on the back ONLY of all entries.

Category 2 – Jewellery – ‘Bright and Shiny’

Use any durable medium to create or craft decorative items to be worn for personal adornment attached to the body or clothes.

Category 3 – Wearable Art – ‘Whacky and Wayout’

Create an artistic item of art that can be worn on the body. These can be made from whatever substance/material can be sewn, constructed, woven, knitted, painted, collaged, sculptured, coaxed or charmed by the will of the artist. Get creative!!

People’s Choice
All entries will be automatically eligible for the People’s Choice Award, voted on by the public either in person or online

Please make sure your documents adhere to these restrictions:

■ One high quality photo of your artwork - between 1-2MB in size. If your work is a sculpture, you may upload two photos.
NOTE: Please name your photo file with your name and the artwork title as listed in the entry form e.g. Michael Zavros_Portrait of Alex Dimitriades
■ Please ensure 2D work photographs are cropped to eliminate surrounding backgrounds.
■ We recommend sending through images with 300dpi if possible.
■ An artist statement describing how your work relates to the theme 100 - 150 word maximum.

This is the cost to the artist to reproduce the work - including materials and labor.

All eligible entries will be considered for the People’s Choice Award.

Payment Details

Please select your preferred method of payment for your entry fee. You do not require a PayPal Account to pay by credit card.
If you have chosen to pay by cheque, please remember to make the cheque out to QRRRWN and post it to: QRRRWN at PO Box 1568, Toowoomba, QLD 4350.
The cheque must be received before the closing date of 1 October, 2017.

Conditions of Entry

Do you agree to the published conditions of entry and declare that the artwork is your original and unaided work, completed after July 2016, and belongs to you.
Do you acknowledge that if your entry does not meet the conditions of entry, your entry will be ineligible?
